Call for guest editors
The EUROPEAN REVIEW of PHILOSOPHY publishes yearly thematic issues edited by guest editors. The Board of the ERP currently accepts proposals for forthcoming issues. Proposals are evaluated for their timeliness, relevance to the scope and readership of the ERP, feasibility, and overall scientific quality. Proposals can be submitted at any time and will be reviewed within 3 months.
Format of a volume proposal
Proposals for future issues should include the following:
- A short motivation letter, explaining the stakes, expected impact, target readership and timeliness of the proposed issue.
- The proposed title of the volume.
- A call for papers (no more than 300 words).
- Names, affiliations, and short biografical information about the guest editor(s). The name and contact details of a single contact editor, who will be in charge of all the communication, should also be specified.
- A selection of recent literature relevant to the proposed issue.
- A list of potential invited authors. Providing a list of authors already willing to submit papers to the proposed volume as invited contributors is particularly appreciated.
- A pool of potential authors and reviewers.
- Reference to any forthcoming scientific event (conferences or workshops) that may provide relevant contributors to the volume, if applicable.
Proposals should be submitted electronically to the editor of the ERP.
The role of guest editors
Contributors whose proposal has been accepted and scheduled for production take the role of guest editors. Guest editors work in close collaboration with the editor-in-chief and executive board of the ERP, whose role is to provide help and ensure that the editorial procedure (dissemination of the call for papers, refereeing process, communication with authors) is smooth and timely. Duties of guest editors include:
- Inviting leading authors to contribute guest papers to the prospective volume.
- Writing and disseminating a call for papers.
- Selecting and allocating reviewers for submitted and invited papers. Our editorial policy requires two blind reviewers for each submitted paper and encourages reviewing for invited papers. The editorial board can assist guest editors with a list of potential reviewers from the pool of previous contributors/referees.
- Selecting papers for the volume on the basis of the peer review. Guest editors are in charge of acceptance/rejection/revision and resubmission decisions and notify the editorial board on each of these decisions.
- Writing an introduction to the volume.
- Preparing the manuscript of the volume, making sure that the guidelines are respected so as to facilitate the publisher's work.
The contact editor will serve as the contact between the volume's editorial team and the ERP board. S/he is accountable for the progress of the volume preparation and for reporting to the board any problems that may arise.
Timeline
- Volumes are scheduled for publication in December every year.
- Proposals for future issues should be submitted at the latest 18 months before the planned publication date.
- The call for papers should be disseminated at least one year before the scheduled publication date.
- The reviewing process should start at least 6 months before the scheduled publication date.
Volume specifications
Each volume includes invited papers and submitted papers in response to a call for papers. Edited volumes contain a minimum of 6 and up to 12 papers, excluding the introduction, and should be within a 300 pages budget. Special page budget requests will be discussed on an individual basis with the ERP board. ERP volumes are published by CSLI Publications and distributed via the network of The University of Chicago Press.
